Structure and solubility of Zn(cyclam) Cl©üin aqueous solution

Abstract
The structure of Zn(cyclam)CI_(2) in aqueous solution was studied by the solubility method. Zn(cyclam)CI_(2) was prepared from ZnCI_(2) and cyclam(1, 4, 8, 11-teraazacyclotetradecane), and analyzed by the elementary analysis and infrared spectrum. The solubility measurements were performed at 25¡É for the solutions with the CI/Zn mole??rations of 2, 3 and 5. The solubility of Zn(cyclam)CI_(2) in H_(2)O is 1.13 mole/l. The main species in aqueous Zn(cyclam)CI_(2) solution is [Zn(cyclam)(H_(2)O)CI]. The solubility product constant of [Zn(cyclam)(H_(2)O)CI][CI] is 1.2679. LiCI was added in aqueous Zn(cyclam)CI_(2) solution in order ro investigate the effect of the CI/Zn ratios on the coordination state of Zn ion. Increasing the CI/Zn ratio does not affect the coordination state of Zn ion, but decreases the solubility of Zn(cyclam)CI_(2) by the common ion effect.
